Good intentions and no results...

A month goes by... POOF without an entry. Got to focus... too many distractions. Here goes...
This past spring I was bitten by the Kayak bug and have been dabbling at paddling on and off all summer. I live in Western Washington, so there is no shortage of "kayakable" water in the neighborhood. There were a few roadblocks however, like no experience or knowledge and oh yea, no kayak.
Took some lessions on Lake Union in Seattle and learned the basic strokes. Well, was exposed to the basic strokes and safety techniques. I am pretty good at a wet exit and can self rescue pretty well, but I am going to need some remedial "rolling" lessions.
Things really heated up in September when the West Coast Sea Kayak Symposium was held in Port Townsend, WA. Not only did it feature many informative classes and seminars, but just about every freakin' brand and model of sea kayak on the market. All there for the paddling, free of charge... well I must have tried out 15 or more different kayaks before settling on a few that might meet my modest needs.
That would be a stable platform for lite fly fishing and photography as well as a reasonably good tracker and not such a scow that the wind blows you all over the water. Early the first day the planets aligned and I came across a Current Designs Ketral 120 offered by Discovery Kayaks for what had to be close to dealer cost. Immediately went out to the demo beach and tried it out. (as well as 14 other comeptitors including a coulple of nice boats from Eddy Line.) It was sweet so I whipped out the plastic and she was mine all mine!
Since then, I have paddled several small lakes and streams on the Eastside of Seattle and the Kestral is a joy to paddle and easy to load, unload and transport. Still waiting for the spray skirt I ordered to come in, so I have not had her out in serious rain, but I hope to keep paddling year around.
Above are a few pics of the boat and a recent paddle outing...
